Getting There

Santa Ynez is about 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara by car. The main route is US-101 northwest to Buellton, then east on Highway 246 into the valley — straightforward and well-signed. The more scenic option is CA-154 (San Marcos Pass Road), which climbs over the Santa Ynez Mountains through Cachuma Lake and drops into the valley from the south. The pass road adds a few minutes but is worth it on a clear day.

From Los Angeles, the drive is about three hours via US-101 through Ventura and Santa Barbara. There is no passenger rail service directly to the valley; Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner stops at Santa Barbara station, from where you would need a car or taxi to continue to Santa Ynez. Santa Ynez Airport (SQA) handles small private aircraft but no scheduled commercial service.
