The Santa Ynez Valley is pleasant most of the year. Summer (June–August) brings warm, dry days in the mid-80s°F and cool evenings — the marine influence keeps temperatures from reaching the extremes of inland California. This is the busiest period; wine tasting rooms and Solvang's streets fill on weekends.
Spring (March–May) is the best season overall. The hills are green from winter rains, wildflowers appear along the roadsides, and visitor numbers are lower than summer. Harvest runs from August into October, when the wineries are busy with picking and crush; many host events.
Winter is mild and quiet. Rainfall is concentrated in January and February. Midweek visits in winter are almost crowd-free, and the valley looks good under low light. Solvang holds a Julefest Christmas festival in December that draws visitors from across the region.
