Whiskey Flat Days is the town's annual long weekend of old-west pageantry held over the Presidents' Day weekend in February. It is a chance for Kernville to reconnect with its original name (Whiskey Flat, before respectable folk renamed it Kernville in 1864) and the gold-mining frontier behind it.
There is a parade, a rodeo, a "frog jump," a beauty pageant, plenty of fried food, and a great deal of period costume. It is the busiest weekend of the year in town and books out the few motels well in advance. Wear something warm — February evenings in the Sierra foothills get cold fast.
