Stockton is not a conventional tourist destination, but the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta surrounding it is one of the most distinctive landscapes in California — a maze of waterways, levees, and old towns that rewards slow exploration by houseboat or canoe. Downtown Stockton has a few surviving historic buildings and the Haggin Museum. The waterfront area has been partially revitalised and makes for a decent walk on a mild day.
