Borrego Springs is reachable only by road. The most scenic approach is the Montezuma Valley Road (S-22) over the mountains from Ramona, which drops in a series of switchbacks from 4,000 feet to the desert floor with the badlands spread below — pull over at the overlook at the top. From San Diego the trip takes about two hours; from Los Angeles, three to four; from Palm Springs, about two and a half via the back roads.
There is no scheduled public transport. The nearest airports with rental cars are San Diego (SAN), Palm Springs (PSP) and Imperial County (IPL).
