Built in 1861, this tiny Victorian firehouse served Nevada City for 77 years before being retired in 1938. Today it houses the Nevada County Historical Society's collection — old photographs, Gold Rush memorabilia, and relics from Nevada City's first boom years. It's a small museum, densely packed and worth 30–45 minutes. The bell tower and white facade are among the most photographed corners in the downtown.

A story
Built in Neoclassical-Greek Revival style, this firehouse operated from 1861 until 1938 — long enough to see the transition from horse-drawn wagons to motorized engines, all running through the same small arched entrance.
