Sierra-at-Tahoe

Southwest Tahoe ski area with forested runs, beginner terrain, and a less polished feel than the lakefront resorts.

Sierra-at-Tahoe sits off Highway 50 southwest of the lake, close to Echo Summit rather than the casino strip. It is smaller and less glamorous than Heavenly or Palisades, but that is part of the appeal: tree-lined runs, a strong snowboarding scene, and useful beginner areas make it a practical mountain for families and mixed-ability groups.

The resort was badly affected by the 2021 Caldor Fire, and the recovering forest is now part of the landscape. Check current lift and terrain status before going, especially early in the season. When conditions are good, Sierra is a straightforward, satisfying ski day without the full production of Tahoe's biggest resorts.
