Sugar Pine Point State Park

Sugar Pine Point is the largest state park on Lake Tahoe, stretching along the West Shore south of Tahoe City with over two miles of shoreline. The park contains a mixture of old-growth pine forest, a historic estate, beaches, and cross-country ski trails — it is one of the more versatile spots at the lake.

The centrepiece is the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, a grand Queen Anne summer home built in 1903 and open for tours. The pier in front of it is free to use. The beaches in the park are among the best on the West Shore — shaded by pines, with clear shallow water good for children. A lighthouse replica sits on the point itself, and the network of trails through the forest is excellent for running, hiking, and in winter, Nordic skiing.
