Mammoth Mountain is the centrepiece of Mammoth Lakes and one of California's premier ski resorts. The numbers are imposing: 3,500 acres of skiable terrain, 28 lifts, a top elevation of 11,053 feet, and an annual snowfall that regularly exceeds 400 inches. The resort runs from November through spring and occasionally into summer — the season consistently outlasts every other California mountain.
In summer, the ski infrastructure is repurposed into a serious mountain bike park. Gondola and chairlift access opens up over 80 miles of trails, from beginner-friendly flow trails to technical downhill runs that draw competitive riders. Bike rentals and lessons are available at the base. The gondola also runs for sightseeing, offering views across the Great Basin into Nevada on clear days. Beyond skiing and biking, the mountain serves as the access point for high-elevation hiking, with trailheads directly accessible from the base area.
