The Roxy Theatre

Storied 500-capacity Sunset Strip rock club open since 1973

The Roxy opened on the Sunset Strip on 20 September 1973, backed by a partnership of Lou Adler, Elmer Valentine, David Geffen, Elliot Roberts, and Peter Asher, and immediately became one of the defining venues of the LA rock scene. Neil Young recorded Tonight's the Night here, Bruce Springsteen played a legendary early-career show, and the American premiere of The Rocky Horror Show ran upstairs.

It remains a working club with a capacity of around 500, similar to its neighbour the Whisky a Go Go, and still books big names into an intimate room. Above it, the On the Rox lounge was a notorious 1970s celebrity hideaway and occasionally opens to the public for events.
