Castro Street is Mountain View's downtown spine and the city's most human-scale stretch. Running from the Caltrain station south toward the performing arts centre, it is lined with an unusually international mix of restaurants — Vietnamese pho shops, Indian dhabas, Spanish tapas bars, and Peruvian cevicherÃas all within a few blocks of each other. This reflects the makeup of the tech workforce that eats here on weekday lunches.
In the evenings the street has a lively bar scene, with a mix of craft beer spots and wine bars. The Mountain View Adobe, a historic 19th-century building on Castro, is the oldest surviving structure in the city. Saturday mornings see a farmers market at the nearby Caltrain parking lot.
