The southern end of San Diego Bay, between National City and the Naval Base San Diego, holds part of the US Navy's reserve fleet — a row of grey, mothballed warships kept in preservation for possible re-activation. The fleet typically includes decommissioned destroyers, amphibious vessels, and supply ships, though the exact line-up shifts.
The ships are best viewed from Pepper Park or the bayside cycle path at the foot of 32nd Street. This is not an organised attraction, but for naval history enthusiasts and ship photographers it is one of the easier places in the country to see large warships in dry storage.
