Shed

Airy food hall near the plaza with excellent coffee, provisions, and a fermentation counter

Address 25 North Street, Healdsburg, CA 95448

Shed is a large, barn-like space a block from the plaza that functions simultaneously as a café, a specialty food shop, and an education in what Northern California's larder can produce. The building is deliberately designed to blur the line between working kitchen and retail floor — you can see fermentation crocks on shelves, watch bread coming out of the oven, and read the origin story of the cheese you're about to buy.

The café side is best for breakfast and lunch: good drip coffee and espresso, seasonal grain bowls, eggs from local farms, and rotating daily dishes that reflect what's available at the farmers market. The fermentation counter — kombucha, kefir, pickles, and cultured butter made in-house — is unusual and worth a detour for anyone curious about food culture.

The retail shelves stock local preserves, specialty pantry items, cooking tools, and a well-chosen selection of cookbooks. It is one of the more thought-provoking food spaces in Sonoma County, and popular enough that the café fills quickly on weekend mornings.
