Mount Ecclesia (Rosicrucian Fellowship)

Mount Ecclesia is the hilltop headquarters of the Rosicrucian Fellowship, a spiritual organisation that blends Western esotericism with Christian mysticism. The 50-acre campus includes a distinctive white temple, gardens, a healing sanatorium, and residential buildings — all built on a hillside in Oceanside in the early 20th century.

The grounds are generally open to visitors during the day. The temple's exterior architecture is striking, and the gardens offer pleasant walks with views over the surrounding area. It's an unusual piece of Southern California history — a quietly maintained esoteric community that has operated continuously for over a century on the edge of what is now suburban Oceanside.

A story
The Rosicrucian Fellowship was founded in 1909 by Max Heindel, a Danish-American occultist who claimed to have received initiation from Rosicrucian masters in Germany. He chose this hilltop in Oceanside partly because he believed the local climate and spiritual conditions were favourable. The Fellowship still maintains its international headquarters here, publishing esoteric literature and offering correspondence courses in Christian mysticism.
