Oceanside's draws are the ocean, the pier, the military history, and a handful of genuinely interesting museums. The California Surf Museum is one of the best of its kind anywhere, the pier is long enough to feel like a real outing, and Camp Pendleton brings an unusual military dimension to the city's character. A few nature reserves and lagoons round things out.
