Alta Laguna Park

Alta Laguna Park sits on a ridge above the town at the top of Park Avenue, connected to the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park trail system and offering some of the highest views in the area. The park itself is a simple open space — no facilities, no entrance fee, no crowds — with trails heading in multiple directions into the surrounding wilderness.

The trail along the ridge toward Top of the World connects to a network that eventually descends back to town or continues east into the hills behind Laguna Niguel. In spring the wildflowers on the open ridge can be impressive. In summer the heat at this elevation is genuine — go before 9am or after 4pm.

A story
Alta Laguna sits at 366 metres, the highest point within the city limits. On a clear day — which means winter mornings before the marine layer builds — you can see from Catalina Island to Mount Baldy, with the entire Orange County coast laid out below. The park is used mainly by local dog walkers and trail runners, which is part of what makes it worthwhile.
