The first neighbourhood built for Stanford faculty after the university opened — a quiet grid of streets just south of University Avenue, full of large craftsman bungalows, brown-shingle homes, and the occasional Greene & Greene-influenced piece. The whole district is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Streets to wander: Kingsley, Bryant, Cowper, and Tasso. Two or three signature houses appear on each block. The area is mostly residential and there are no shops, but it makes a pleasant fifteen- minute loop after dinner downtown, and the architecture explains a lot about how this corner of California ended up looking the way it does.
