A 1925 Spanish-Moorish movie palace on University Avenue, restored by David Packard's foundation in the late 1980s and run since as a not-for-profit dedicated to Hollywood classics. The schedule focuses on 1920s through 1960s film, mostly screened from 35mm, with a Wurlitzer pipe organ played live before evening features.
Tickets are deliberately cheap. The interior — gold paint, painted clouds on the ceiling, ornate Spanish detail — is worth a visit on its own; pair it with a meal on University Avenue beforehand for a perfect Palo Alto evening. Closed in summer for staff rest and projector maintenance.
