Getting Around

Downtown San Jose is compact and walkable. VTA light rail connects downtown to the San Jose Convention Centre, Japantown, Kelley Park, and the airport, though it runs slowly and service is infrequent by big-city standards. Cycling is feasible in the flat downtown area.

Most of San Jose's suburban spread — including the Winchester Mystery House, Rosicrucian Museum, and South Bay's tech campuses — requires a car or rideshare. The city was built for driving, and although public transit is improving, it remains slower and less comprehensive than in San Francisco. Parking is generally easier and cheaper than in San Francisco or central LA.
