Snoopy's Home Ice (officially the Redwood Empire Ice Arena) was built by Charles Schulz in 1969 and is still run by his family. It's a real working ice arena — the locals skate here, the local hockey teams practice here — with a Peanuts-themed lobby and a café called the Warm Puppy. The Schulz Museum is right next door.

Schulz skated here almost every day for thirty years, played on one of the pick-up hockey teams, and gave the place its character. You can skate public sessions year-round. The combination of skating, the Warm Puppy café, and the museum next door makes this a very Santa Rosa afternoon — not a theme park experience but a real place that happens to have a famous history.

Charles Schulz was a devoted hockey player who skated at Snoopy's Home Ice multiple times a week until he was 77. He played in a pickup game the same week he was diagnosed with colon cancer in November 1999. He died on February 12, 2000 — the night before his final Peanuts strip was published in Sunday papers. He had spent 50 years drawing the strip from his studio two blocks away.
