Santa Monica Pier

Iconic century-old pleasure pier with Ferris wheel and carousel

The oldest pleasure pier on the West Coast, built between 1908 and 1921. Pacific Park sits on the pier with a Ferris wheel and oceanfront roller coaster, while the Looff Hippodrome houses a beautifully restored 1922 carousel — the same one that appeared in the film The Sting. Below the pier, the UCLA Discovery Center has interactive exhibits on Pacific Ocean ecology (open weekends, admission $3).
