Burton Creek State Park

The largest undeveloped state park in the Tahoe basin — over 800 hectares of pine forest, creeks, and meadows just north of Tahoe City. There is no road through the park, no visitor centre, no fee; it exists as a network of dirt trails and fire roads used by hikers, mountain bikers, and cross-country skiers in winter.

It is the easiest place near Tahoe City to walk into deep forest within minutes of leaving the highway. The Burton Creek loop and the Antone Meadow trail are good introductory routes.
