Six miles north of Tahoe City, Palisades Tahoe is one of the largest ski resorts in North America — the two-side mountain (formerly Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows) totals over 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. The Aerial Tram climbs to High Camp at 2,500 metres for skiers in winter and for hikers, swimmers, and the disc golf course in summer.
The village at the base has restaurants, ice skating, and the gondola station. Even non-skiers can ride up for the view across the Sierra crest — the only place on Lake Tahoe's perimeter where you can stand above the lake at this height without serious effort.
