The paved bike path runs 10 km from Fanny Bridge along the Truckee River toward Squaw Valley, mostly through pine forest with the river beside it. The grade is gentle, the surface is good, and it is open to walkers, runners, and cyclists. In summer, hundreds of people float down the river itself on rented rafts and inflatable kayaks while cyclists pace them on the bank.
Bike rentals are available from several shops in Tahoe City; many offer a shuttle back from the Squaw Valley end so you can ride one-way.
