Just west of Yountville on Napanook Road, Dominus Estate is the winery to know about even if you cannot get in. The estate makes a single grand vin from Cabernet, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, in the style of a Pomerol left bank — Moueix's home territory.
Visits are by appointment only and limited; the wine is sold mostly through mailing list and allocation. Even the drive past is worth it for the Herzog & de Meuron building, which is one of the most quietly extraordinary pieces of architecture in California.
