Pearl Street Mall is the main shopping strip — pedestrian-only, with independent bookshops, outdoor gear outfitters, and a few clothing boutiques alongside cafes and restaurants. Twenty Ninth Street, a few blocks east, is a larger open-air mall with chain stores and a cinema.
Boulder's outdoor gear scene is strong, with Patagonia and REI anchoring a cluster of outfitters near Pearl Street. For second-hand gear, several shops in the Hill neighbourhood near the CU campus offer good deals, especially at the start and end of the ski season.
