Buffalo Bill Grave and Museum

On Lookout Mountain above Golden, the grave and modest museum of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody is one of the strangest must-stops on the Front Range. Cody, the Pony Express rider, Union scout, buffalo hunter and Wild West showman who effectively invented America's myth of itself, asked to be buried with a view; from the grave site the prairie opens out to the east for a hundred miles.

The museum is a single room of Cody memorabilia — rifles, Sitting Bull's bow, posters from the touring show. Easy to combine with Red Rocks, the foothills hikes, and Golden itself.

A story
Cody's family fought a long battle with the city of Cody, Wyoming, over the location of the grave, which Denver businessmen secured for the city after his death in 1917 by pouring concrete over the grave to deter Cody-led grave robbers.
