Silverton itself is walkable, but the surrounding attractions require a car, a high-clearance vehicle, a tour jeep, or a train ticket. Many mountain roads are rough, seasonal, and unsuitable for ordinary rental cars. Weather changes quickly, and snow can linger high into summer.
