Snowmass is the largest of the four mountains in the Aspen Snowmass complex. It rises from about 2,470 m at the base to 3,813 m at the top of the Cirque Headwall, with a vertical drop of 1,343 m — among the highest in North America. The trail network spreads across multiple bowls and ridges and includes serious expert terrain (the Cirque, Hanging Valley) alongside long cruising blues and a sheltered beginner area at the base.
The lift system is modern, with several high-speed chairs and a gondola from the Base Village to Sam's Knob. Lift lines are generally short by Colorado standards, even on holiday weekends, simply because the mountain is so big.
In summer the same lifts run for sightseeing and mountain-bike access, and a network of hiking trails connects up to the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness.
