Gainesville's best months are October through April, when Florida's humidity drops to manageable levels and temperatures are pleasant. The summers are hot and very humid — July and August average near 90°F (32°C) with thunderstorms almost every afternoon. The springs, however, maintain a constant temperature of around 68°F (20°C) year-round, making them a relief in summer.
The University of Florida dominates the social calendar. Football season (August through November) brings enormous crowds to the city on game weekends; if you are not a Gators fan, avoid those dates. Graduation weekends in May are also busy. The city is noticeably quieter during university breaks in December and January.
