Little Haiti

North of Wynwood and the Design District, Little Haiti is Miami's Haitian cultural centre — a neighbourhood of brightly painted buildings, botanicas selling herbal remedies, Creole restaurants, and Caribbean grocery shops. It is grittier and less polished than the neighbourhoods to the south, but it has genuine character and some of the most affordable food in the city. The Caribbean Marketplace, modelled after the Iron Market in Port-au-Prince, hosts a weekly bazaar. The neighbourhood is changing rapidly as development pressure from Wynwood pushes north, so the Little Haiti of today may not last long.

Chef Creole on NE 54th Street is a local institution for griot (fried pork), lambi (conch), and fried plantains. The Haitian Heritage Museum on NE 2nd Avenue documents the community's history.
