Lincoln Road is the main pedestrian street of South Beach, running east-west from the ocean to the bay and lined with restaurants, galleries, cafés, and shops. In the 1990s, it became the cultural spine of the South Beach revival: galleries moved in, fashion shoots happened here, and the outdoor café culture was firmly established. It remains busy and varied, though the mix has shifted toward chain restaurants and tourist shops.
The best time to be on Lincoln Road is on Sunday mornings for the farmers market, or in the late afternoon when the light is good and the outdoor tables are just filling up. The design of the public spaces — Lapidus's midcentury structures, the wide planted median, the shaded arcades — is genuinely pleasant, and the people-watching is excellent. During Art Basel Miami Beach in December, the street fills with impromptu installations and the crowd becomes noticeably more international.
