When to Go

The best time to visit is spring (March through May) and autumn (October through November), when temperatures are mild and the humidity has eased off. Summer brings heat and humidity but also peak tubing season on the Ichetucknee — the 68°F spring water feels perfect on a hot July afternoon, and the river is at its most popular. Winters are mild by national standards (highs typically in the 60s°F), and the springs and forests are uncrowded.

The Battle of Olustee Reenactment takes place each February near Olustee, about 15 miles east of Lake City — it's the largest Civil War reenactment in the southeastern United States and draws visitors from across the region.

Hurricane season runs June through November. Lake City's inland location shields it from direct coastal impacts, but heavy rain and flooding can be an issue in the wettest months.
