Lake City sits at the junction of I-10 and I-75 in north Florida, a practical stop and a reasonable base for the spring-fed rivers and forests of the region. The town itself is modest — its past as a farming community is still visible — but the surrounding area has real attractions.
The Ichetucknee River, about 12 miles northwest of town, is one of the best things to do in north Florida. The springs pour out millions of gallons of 68°F water daily, and tubing the slow current through the forest on a summer afternoon is genuinely pleasant. Nearby, the Suwannee and Santa Fe rivers offer canoeing and kayaking.
The Osceola National Forest lies just east of town, with trails, camping, and wildlife. Lake City is also close to the Florida Trail.
