The Skyway Trail picks up where the Pinellas Trail ends in St. Petersburg and runs another 8 miles south along the old US-19 approach to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The southern end stops at the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park — the original bridge approach, converted into a 1.5-mile pier after the 1980 freighter collision that brought the old span down.
Riding the Skyway Trail adds substantial views of Tampa Bay and a remarkable engineering perspective on the modern Skyway Bridge, whose yellow cable stays dominate the horizon. The trail crosses several smaller bridges with bike-friendly shoulders before ending at the pier parking lot.
