Cascades Park

24-acre downtown park built on a reclaimed spring-fed creek

Cascades Park is a 24-acre urban park in downtown Tallahassee, built on the reclaimed corridor of a spring-fed creek that runs through the heart of the city. The park opened in 2013 after a major restoration project that transformed a neglected area into one of the most appealing public spaces in the Florida Panhandle.

The park has walking trails, an amphitheater used for outdoor concerts, playground areas, and a waterfall feature. It connects to the downtown core and to the hiking and cycling trail network extending south toward the coast. The park is best in the morning or late afternoon — a pleasant place to walk after visiting the nearby capitol complex.

A story
The creek that runs through Cascades Park once powered a flour mill in the 1820s and later a city waterworks. The natural cascade that gave the park its name was buried under a parking lot for decades before a major urban restoration project uncovered and restored it in 2013. The spring-fed stream now flows openly through the park, surrounded by native plantings.
