Getting Around

Evansville is a spread-out American city and a car is necessary for covering all the sites. The downtown is compact enough to walk once you are there, but Angel Mounds (5 miles east), Wesselman Woods (3 miles east of downtown), and the airport all require driving.

METS, the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System, operates bus routes through the city. Coverage is reasonable for the main corridors but routes run infrequently and the system is best suited for those without a car who are making short local trips.

Downtown parking is inexpensive and widely available. Most of the key sites — the Evansville Museum, the Waterfront, the Hulman Building, and Haynie's Corner — are within a short walk of one another along Riverside Drive and First Street. The entire riverfront to arts district walk is about a mile.

Rideshare operates throughout the city. Bike hire is available through the Evansville Trails and Greenways network, which has an expanding system of off-road paths, though cycling between major sites still requires some road segments.
