Fort Ouiatenon marks one of the earliest European settlements in what became Indiana. The original French post stood on the Wabash River and tied together fur trade, Native nations, imperial rivalry, and the movement of goods through the interior.
The present blockhouse is a reconstruction, so the value is interpretive rather than architectural authenticity. Even so, the riverside setting helps make the history legible. It is especially worthwhile during living-history events, when the site fills out with demonstrations and context.
