Iowa City's best in-town hike is in Hickory Hill, a 190-acre park of oak savanna and prairie restoration just east of downtown. The trail network is short enough for a casual hour and varied enough to feel like real countryside, with bluebells in the spring, prairie wildflowers in summer, and good light through the bur oaks year-round.
Park at the Bloomington Street entrance for the most scenic loop. Trails can be muddy after rain.
