Abilene is on Interstate 70 about 90 miles west of Topeka and 160 miles west of Kansas City — an easy two-and-a-half-hour drive from KCI airport. Most travellers reach the town by car as part of a wider cross-country trip or a Kansas loop with Salina and the Flint Hills. There is no scheduled passenger air service or Amtrak stop in Abilene; the closest train station is in Topeka.
