The Floyd Collins Museum tells the story of one of Kentucky cave country's most famous tragedies. Collins, an early cave explorer, became trapped in Sand Cave in 1925; the failed rescue drew national attention and helped build support for the national park.
The museum is a niche stop, but it adds human history to a region that can otherwise feel like a string of cave entrances and gift shops.
