The two big windows are April for Keeneland's spring meet and the start of foaling season on the farms, and October for the autumn meet and the bluegrass turning gold. Both are also pleasant weather windows; July and August can be hot and humid. The first Saturday in May is technically the Kentucky Derby — held in Louisville, but Lexington fills up too. December and early January are quiet, but Keeneland is closed and many farms restrict access.
