Lexington's appeal divides roughly in three: the horse country surrounding the city (Keeneland, the Kentucky Horse Park, hundreds of working farms), a walkable downtown with old theatres, antebellum houses, and a recent crop of distillery-district restaurants, and the University of Kentucky campus a few blocks south. A car is useful but not essential — most downtown sights are easily walkable from each other.
