The most beautiful bourbon distillery to visit, in a stone-walled creek valley about 18 miles west of Lexington. Tours run hourly during the day; the standard tour is 90 minutes and includes the pot stills, the fermenters, and a tasting in the post-Prohibition stone visitor centre. The longer Corn-to-Cork experience is the deepest dive for serious drinkers. Book ahead — tours fill weeks in advance from April through October.
Woodford Reserve Distillery
A story
The distillery has been making whiskey since 1812, making it the oldest continuously operating bourbon distillery in Kentucky. The current Woodford Reserve brand was launched only in 1996, but the limestone warehouses, the copper pot stills (made in Scotland), and the stone manager's house are all on their original sites.
