Bridgton Academy

Bridgton Academy, in North Bridgton about 3 miles north of town, is a private all-male college preparatory school founded in 1808. It occupies a 55-acre campus with 24 buildings and is one of the older prep schools in New England — NEASC-accredited since 1934 and still functioning much as it always has. The school specializes in postgraduate students ("PGs"), young men who take an extra year after high school to strengthen their academic records or athletic careers before college. Notable alumni include NFL wide receiver Victor Cruz.

The campus itself is pleasant and worth a brief look if you are driving through North Bridgton toward Harrison or Waterford. It sits on a rise overlooking the lake country, and the older stone and brick buildings have the quiet, purposeful look of New England institutional architecture at its best. Visitors are not formally admitted, but the grounds are open.
