Nunan's has been doing the same thing since 1953: whole boiled lobster, served in a boathouse on Cape Porpoise harbour, with coleslaw and a roll, and that's largely it. The setting is unadorned — wooden tables, paper bibs, a view of the working harbour — and the lobster is the focus. It's cash only and BYOB; reservations are not accepted. Arrive early in summer, as they sell out.
The hut is a local institution in the truest sense: run by the same family, unchanged in approach, doing nothing to attract attention beyond simply being very good at the thing it does. For a whole lobster experience without any resort-town packaging, this is where to go.
