Walker's Point Estate

The Bush family summer compound, visible by boat from Ocean Avenue

The summer home of the Bush family — bought by George Herbert Walker (great-grandfather of President George H.W. Bush) in 1903 and used by the family ever since. Walker's Point juts into the Atlantic Ocean on a rocky promontory just south of Kennebunkport, and the compound is visible from the road along Ocean Avenue. There is no public access to the estate itself, but it's an unavoidable presence in the town's identity.

President George H.W. Bush spent most of his summers here throughout his presidency, and the area around Dock Square and the Cape Arundel Golf Club saw considerable Secret Service activity in those years. Bush 43 also visited regularly. The estate's rocky oceanfront setting — classic Maine granite, crashing Atlantic surf, shingled house in the middle distance — is genuinely striking from the water. Several boat tour companies run cruises past the point in summer.
