Bertha's is a Fells Point institution — a bar and restaurant that has been serving mussels since 1972 and has a bumper sticker ("Eat Bertha's Mussels") that became one of the most recognised bits of Baltimore ephemera of the 20th century. The mussels are steamed in various preparations and served in enormous portions; the rest of the menu is traditional pub food of solid quality.
The bar section is dark, comfortable, and excellent; there is live jazz on certain evenings. Bertha's exemplifies the Fells Point aesthetic: unpretentious, consistent, and genuinely local. The bumper stickers are still available.
