Getting There

Baltimore is one of the most accessible cities on the East Coast. The BWI Marshall Airport handles flights from major American cities and some international connections, and is served by the MARC commuter train that connects to downtown Baltimore's Penn Station in about 30 minutes. Amtrak trains run frequently between Baltimore and Washington DC (45 minutes), Philadelphia, New York, and Boston — Penn Station in the Mount Vernon neighbourhood is a handsome Beaux-Arts building worth seeing in its own right.

By car, Baltimore sits on Interstate 95 midway between Washington and Philadelphia. Traffic on I-95 through the city is severe at rush hours, and the harbour tunnel is a perennial bottleneck. For visitors from DC, the Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Express buses run frequently and cheaply along the corridor, taking 60–90 minutes depending on traffic.
