Thames Street, Fells Point

Thames Street is the heart of Fells Point's bar and restaurant scene, a cobblestone street running along the waterfront of the neighbourhood. The stretch from Broadway to the east contains the greatest concentration of independent bars and restaurants in Baltimore — some long-established, some newer, but almost all locally owned and distinctly un-chain.

The street comes into its own in the evening, when the bars fill and the cobblestones make the waterfront feel older and stranger than it actually is. In summer, outdoor seating extends along the street. The view back across the water toward the city is good from several points, and the water taxi dock here connects to the Inner Harbor and Fort McHenry. This is where a Baltimore evening should begin.
